OLYMPIC GAMES 2024 FORMULA KITES update:
We waited all day yesterday for the wind to pick up in order to do few more races. But the wind never picked up for Cameron and the rest of the competitors to compete in order to get into the top 10 medal series which is happening today.
Few days ago, Cameron was top 9 and because of one bad race due to the lack of breeze he went back to 11th position
which put him outside of the top 10 riders with only 4 points behind #10. And yesterday he was hoping to get back in top 10 since he was only nine points away from top 7, but because of the lack of wind, he never made it . They actually tried to do one race yesterday and he was in 5th position which would’ve put him back into the top 10 riders, but they had to cancel it because halfway of the race the wind died again.
So in total they were able to do only four good races (R1-R2-R3-R4)on the first day since it was blowing (12-17 knots). Then Day 2, 3, and 4 was so light winds (5.5 to 7.8 knots) but they still managed to squeeze three more races within these three days in such light conditions. Some riders and their coaches start protesting against the committee for making them race in such light conditions.
People have to understand sailing races, especially “Windsurfing” and “Formula Kites” races you need at least 7 to 11 knots to have a good race. And you need to run at least 11 races so you can throw out the worst 3 races. And then do the Medal Series with the top 10 riders.
Anyway, we should all be very proud of these guys. They are all Olympians and they did their best to get here. Amazing lifetime experience.
